Validator participation of the Medalla test is now around 74% above the 66% threshold. This percentage accounts for more than 1.1 Million test Ether tokens validators staked on the Ethereum 2.0’s Medalla test network.
As reported earlier, Medalla is one of the many ETH 2.0 testnets created in 2019 and 2020. It stood out as it was a public-meaning network; developer teams do not centrally coordinate validators.
The Medalla Testnet Journey Since the Launch
When the Medalla testnet launched in early August, the participation level was 57%, which was lower than the expected 80%. It would only mean that 57% of the stake was being used to validate the network.
On August 14, the final multi-client testnet before ETH 2.0’s phase 0 launch came to an end after a bug took most offline validators. The incident caused the validators to propose blocks and attestation for future slots incorrectly.
Prysm’s Raul Jordan however, said that it was a great learning experience to help them prevent future occurrences. All in all, this was a significant setback to the medulla testnet, but that did not stop its founders.
Ethereum 2.0 Testnet Participation Upsurges
Last week, the Medalla testnet recorded its highest participation level ever since its launch. The figures suggest that earlier calls to participation paid off well. Platforms like Reddit’s r/ethereum forum and on twitter, among others, played a massive role in reaching out to the ethereum community.
The rate stood at 74%, which was way above the threshold of 66% required for the testnet. The number of validators represented by the percentage accumulate to 38,000 and have stalked more than 1.1 million test tokens to see Medalla’s validation.
Validators are already getting 1their returns for the Ethereum they staked, and adding blocks like clockwork.
The Predicted Future of Medalla After Phase 0 Launch
As more people join Medalla, staking confidence observations expect it to keep rising. Even though it may take some time for users and community participants to acquaint themselves with the new set up, medulla will still be a go-to network.
Issues that could arise at this point are seen as a way to learn and improve the network as no real value is attached. The actual launch is expected to have better staking security and confidence.
