In the world of high level cryptocurrency predictions which are often spouted, there has been one prediction that has stood above all of them in its magnitude. Former anti-virus mogul and cryptocurrency believer John McAfee once bet his own manhood on a $1 million price tag for the coin.
This price prediction came in July 2017, a time where Bitcoin was just starting to bubble and head towards its all time high less than six months later. At this time, the call of Bitcoin to $1 million did not seem that crazy, and the fact that McAfee said he would eat his own penis if it did not reach that point, only backed the fact.
However, a lot has changed in the cryptocurrency space since 2017, mostly for the good of the coin, and mostly in the maturation of the ecosystem. However, the maturation is something that is taking away the coin’s high volatility, and its possibility of going parabolic to $1 million.
This has also caught the eye of John McAfee who has now come out and said that Bitcoin reaching $1 million is nonsense
“I’m the person who predicted Bitcoin, the most crippled crypto-tech, would reach $1 mil,” he tweeted. “Are you one of the persons who did not see the absurd humor in it?
“I posted it on the same day I predicted Whale F**king would replace Surfing as the number one water sport. Wake up! Put a different way: If Bitcoin ever hit $1 mil, it’s market cap would be greater than the GDP of the entire North American Continent. What idiot would believe such nonsense?”
“Whale F**king is a thousand times more likely to make its way onto the Olympics Stage.”
As McAfee’s own explanation states, he is outspoken and quite brash about his views, but he is also not one to take them too seriously, and perhaps that is a sign that people should not be taking them seriously too.
McAfee has become known as one of the bigger names in the cryptocurrency space and a well known character, but his influence should probably be taken into account. Being a character in the space is one thing, but in this speculative and highly volatile space, having a platform on which bold statements can be made, and then retracted as a joke, can be quite damaging.
