On Sep 24, data management open-source blockchain project Ontology (ONT) partnered with automobile manufacturer Daimler’s blockchain division to develop a blockchain-based mobility platform.
This strategic collaboration will leverage MoveX, a mobility platform that utilizes ONT’s decentralized identity framework (ONT ID) to create highly-secured digital driving services.
MoveX is a pioneering blockchain-powered platform set to revolutionize the automotive and mobility sectors by empowering user roaming, bundling, and sharing.
Such capabilities will facilitate the integration of services across providers, a significant barrier to blockchain tech’s widespread adoption.
The innovative platform will also bring the benefits of blockchain tech and apps to the automotive finance and mobility industry, thus transforming drivers’ experience globally.
The two startups showcased the first app on the MoveX platform, Welcome Home, which offers users highly personalized experiences and service integrations.
Commenting on the new app, Harry Behrens, head of the Daimler Mobility AG Blockchain Factory, noted:
“Welcome Home combines mobility with social networking. By using Ontology’s unique framework for DID and highly secure data access we have combined usability with the highest standards for data sovereignty and privacy.”
Leveraging Advanced Tech to Transform The Driving Experience
By partnering with ONT, Daimler Mobility AG has demonstrated its commitment to embrace innovative tech that delivers the best possible drivers’ experience.
Ontology’s blockchain brings the necessary security, verification, and trusted data management for users to experience several mobility services across the entire automobile ecosystem.
The Welcome Home app offers in-car personalization and management solutions applicable to in-car experiences. As the app becomes more connected and data-rich, it will further integrate with any smart device to enhance drivers’ user experience further.
This solution is designed as the first module of a larger MoveX platform. The idea is to allow a driver to use a single account to rent cars from different providers without repeatedly filling out burdensome new forms.
Moreover, the Welcome Home app can manage parking tickets/fees payments, store driving history, and customize navigation systems.
The news comes as Ontology continues to strengthen use cases for its unique decentralized identity solution for the automotive sector.
Daimler Rethinks Mobility with More Identity Projects
Besides partnering with ONT, Daimler has worked on two other identity projects in the past. In 2019, the German car manufacturer joined forces with four enterprises to develop the Mobility Blockchain Platform (MBP).
Among the significant developments created under MBP was a hardware wallet fitted into automobiles to facilitate easy payment solutions, which is handy for car rental enterprises.
Similarly, Daimler tapped into a payment solution developed by blockchain startup Spherity. The project’s focus was to provide a wallet for enterprises, so they can easily prove their identity and credentials in an automated manner.
Harry Behrens reiterated earlier this year that decentralized identity could create a seamless experience for users without registering with various solutions.
